LDF Entertainment Hub – Diary April 2014
With Spring well and truly sprung we’re looking forward to summer on the farm...
An ‘Eggs-cellent’ Easter!
There’s another exciting new development for the fun farm underway as I write this diary in the form of the new ‘Nature Walk’ - more details to be revealed soon, but it will definitely be ready for ‘action’ by the school summer holidays, if not before.
We’re now open every weekend, Bank Holiday Monday and half term holidays all week until the end of October – throughout the summer holiday we’ll be open Weds – Sun inclusive. Why not bring the kids along for a fun, educational trip to the farm – you can even bring your own picnic and make a day of it!
Another particularly cute little bundle of joy arrived during the Easter Holiday causing huge excitement. ‘Jennifer’ the Shetland pony foal appeared one morning in her mum’s paddock (clever girl, Daisy!) – we named her in honour of beautiful bride Jennifer who married Joel at the farm the day before she was discovered. Daisy and Jennifer are based at the farm attraction, so all our visitors will have plenty of chance to meet them – before maybe taking a ride on one of our Welsh Mountain ponies (weather permitting).
Striking the balance
This month, farm work has included fertilizing all the oil seed rape and wheat crops, with the Maize Maze field being ploughed on `1st May ready for planting over the next sunny days. We then need to keep everything crossed that we get decent rainfall but also plenty of sunshine to encourage the maize to grow tall and strong ready for the launch of the Maize Maze during the summer holidays!
As he’s been carrying out his work on the farm, Farmer Ray has reported seeing plenty of Skylarks, Lapwings and Hares in the fields – all of which seem to be doing very well this year. More interestingly, he spotted a very rare pair of Grey Partridge, which we hope are settled on the farm and will have a successful breeding season so we’ll see even more next year. On the subject of rare wildlife, a recent survey on the farm’s ponds found 50 Greater Crested Newts in just two of the ponds in the farm – with more ponds left to survey, were hoping that plenty more are found as the farm seems to be a stronghold for this threatened native amphibian!
Action & Adventure
With themes oriented toward either military or film simulation, you could find yourself attacking a rogue General bent on world domination - or fighting zombies and aliens - over a challenging mixed woodland environment full of hills, trees, moats, forts, bunkers and barricades. All are welcome at Frontier (over 12s only*; under 14s accompanied by adult over 14s can play solo) with no experience required. Perfect for birthday parties, corporate team building events, stag dos, hen dos – or just a great family day out! For more information call 07590 255 914 or visit www.frontierairsoft.co.uk
Another new addition to the LDF Entertainment Hub ‘family’ is a Junior Quad Club, which will hold regular meetings offering 4 - 14 year olds with their own quad bikes the chance to take on our great off road track. To find out how to join in this members-only activity, contact xxxxx on xxxxxx.
The ‘Big Kids’ will also get the chance to play on the off road track this month as Cannock AMC Club host another motorbike scramble at the farm on Sunday, 11th May. If you have a suitable bike and are interested in joining in the fun, contact the club direct on xxxx xxxxx.
More bands sign up for the Middle of Nowhere!
The Mona Lisa Twins join a great line-up that includes headliners Dr Feelgood, local banjo player Dan Walsh and The Broombusters alongside many more acts covering the rock, folk and blues spectrum.
